Not all heroes wear capes.

Not all heroes wear capes, as the saying goes. But they do all have an origin story. Depending on the hero the origin tends to differ. Some are from other worlds, some are freak accidents. But what they all have in common is death, someone from their past has died and given them some motivation of some sort. Well, that’s where this story is different.

Not all superheroes wear capes.

This is a story of a hero that is still developing his powers. Like many of his noteworthy counterparts he has been through hardship and had to battle to become who he is today. I am talking about my lil’ man aka mini hulk.

For this particular origin story, we start 6 years ago this exact week…..

Let me set the scene. My then girlfriend of a year (now my wife), 30 weeks pregnant, kept in hospital for 2 weeks. Diagnosis – preeclampsia (basically the flow in the umbilical cord was stopping, and at this point had started to reverse). Rushed to another hospital 40 miles away, for an emergency cesarean. At 5.53pm on August the 24th my lil’man was born, at 10 weeks early and only 2lb 13oz, he struggled for the first 15 minutes for breath. Eventually taking a breath they strapped on a ventilator to aid him. Fighting not only for breath but against life threatening conditions, he had the will and strength to physically pull the ventilator off and breathe for himself not only once but twice.

My lil’ man just hours old.

Fast forward six years, to the present day. Everyday, he struggles with his dark side, a Jeckle and Hyde scenario. He has PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), undiagnosed at the moment, but he has it nonetheless. He is the kindest, most loving child. But, cannot cope with certain situations. Very strong willed and controlling but in the best way. He has an uncontrollable urge to please people and will go out of his way to make sure that people around him are happy. Like his favourite superhero, Spiderman, his senses have been dialled up to 11, so sometimes it can be too much for him.

So that’s the origin story of my lil’ man, my superhero. There is going to be more adventures from this caped crusader and his masked sidekick (his lil’ sis) so stay tuned for that.

It’s that time of year again.

It’s that time of year again, it’s back, not that it felt like it went anywhere. But, the Premier League is back.

After a summer of glorious football in Russia and with the English team progressing to the semi-finals, It hasn’t felt like two weeks have passed since the blue side of Manchester were celebrating a record breaking season.

As an English man in Wales, the summer was bitter sweet. Enjoying watching the likes of Trippier, Maguire, and the stand out player for me, Pickford. But having to put up with the Welsh “banter” when they finally were knocked out, but let’s not get into that.

The summer has been a whirlwind of rumours, what’s new? Being a Chelsea fan, a lot! Last minute deals in and out. Some big boots to fill, or gloves, as the case maybe. And a new, all be it, big character at the helm. With the disappointment of no Champions League but still an F.A cup, let’s hope they can push on for a top 4 finish with some type of silverware this year.

With the season returning, it means only one thing. Fantasy Football. Personally, what with all that’s been going on here at home I haven’t had a chance to get my team together, but I will be involved by game week 2. I’ve got a reputation to uphold. It gives me a reason to keep an eye on all of the results over a weekend and if Chelsea aren’t having the best of seasons it keeps me interested. I might get the lil’ man to pick a team this year to get him involved.

Speaking of the lil’ man, this season could see him start to show a real interest. He was intrigued during the World Cup and I think it sparked an interest. He was collecting World Cup player cards, and picking his favourite players. Hopefully, we can get to a game this season, might have to be an F.A Cup game, but they are unpredictable and amazing to watch, so hopefully his first game will be a memorable one.

Let me know if you have a memorable game you want to share or any fantasy football tips for the season in the comments.

So, this is me.

A couple of years ago my wife had a fairly successful blog, and I always thought “I could do that too”, so this is me, Steve, giving it a go, Here goes……..

Sat here, on a Saturday night in front of the tv, with the missus, wondering how did I get so old. Cosy on the sofa, nice cup of tea, where has my youth gone……

Go upstairs to the toilet, check in on the lil’ man and the lil’ lady all tucked up in bed. Suddenly the penny drops. This is what I’ve always wanted. The family life. But no one told me it would be like this. It’s better than I could have ever imagined.

Don’t get me wrong, the kids are testing, and I’m not even home for the majority of the day! The lil’ lady, now 3, is very much developing into a threenager, and the lil’ man, almost 6, thinks he rules the roost. But more on these at a later date.

So, this is me, my wife and kids.
